PREREQUISITE: Participants MUST HAVE TAKEN a youth sewing machine introduction class OR demonstrated ability to use sewing machine.
We invite participants to our creative Upcycled Fashion camp, for fun sewing activities and projects. Campers will have the opportunity to upcycle old clothes—like denim or sneakers—into personalized projects, transforming T-shirts, crocs, and more into unique skirts, vests, or tote bags! Campers will be introduced to fabric painting, embellishment, and patchwork techniques. Students in this camp may have a chance to show their pieces in Old Town's festival, Scrapfest during the Upcycle fashion show! This camp runs from June 9 - 13, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
Upcycle Fashion is co-taught by REACH founder, Alice Brinkman, and REACH teaching artist Sheila Moore.
Alice is a practicing fiber artist and teaching artist for over 40 years and founded REACH Studio Art Center at the very end of 2003. In 2013 she led the 7-year, 1.3-million-dollar redevelopment of the REACH facility transforming the center from a 1-classroom studio to a block of connected and redeveloped buildings housing 7 studio classrooms. She believes that making art and exercising our imaginations broadens our capacity for being better humans and that everyone should have access to the benefits of self-expression through art.
Sheila is a sewist and long-term teaching artist at REACH Studio Art Center. Sheila has taught REACH’s various sewing classes and has a passion for upcycling clothes. She regularly leads a workshop entitled “Glam Up,” to help inspire people to personalize and bring new life to their garments using sewing, paint, and stencils.
Full and Partial Scholarship options are available for all REACH camps! Please check out the Scholarship and Enrollment page under the Summer Camp tab to learn more about our scholarship opportunities as well as our refund policy.
