Week 6 - PM Camp: Introduction to Breakdance (Ages 6-9)

  • REACH Studio Art Center - Main Studio 1804 South Washington Avenue Lansing, MI, 48910 United States (map)

Immerse yourself in the rhythm and movement of breakdance, also known as breaking! In this camp, students will explore dance, music, and visual art activities while learning the fundamentals of breaking, its history, and the traditions of Hip Hop culture. Through interactive lessons and participation in cyphers—the dynamic dance circles of the breaking world—you’ll gain an understanding of this vibrant art form. No dance experience is required—just bring your energy and willingness to learn! This camp runs from July 28 - August 1, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm.

Introduction to Breakdance is taught by Tabor Vits. Tabor Vits is a bboy (aka "breakdancer") and teaching artist based in Lansing, MI. He has been teaching for 10+ years and is an alumnus of MSU's Residential College in the Arts and Humanities. He is most known for teaching at All of the Above Hip Hop Academy and for having a hand in throwing Lansing's annual Cap City Breaking Jam, a dance competition for all ages.
