Creative Connection – Late Start Wednesday Intern

Fall Semester: K-3^rd grade at REACH(Buses will transport students from REACH to Cavanaugh, Lyons, and Riddle schools)Sept 14, 2016 – Jan 18, 20178:00-10:15amThis project-based, 16 week art program will engage K-3rd graders from Lansing School District in a variety of art experiences, including clay, painting and other mixed media art. The program is designed to provide structured activity during 16 late start Wednesday mornings for Lansing School District students.  Students will be divided into two groups: each group will participate in two different 8 week classes:"Feast on This!" - Students will hand-build and glaze their own set of clay dishes. A Feast at the end of the program will allow students to celebrate their finished dishes with a potluck feast.  Instructor: Abby Deneau"All kinds of Art" - Students will draw, paint, sculpt and exercise their imaginations using a variety of art materials including papier-mâché, paint, recycled materials and more!  Instructor: Liz Wylegala REACH Studio Art Center’s Creative Connections – Late Start Wednesday Intern will:

• Welcome arriving students (likely to arrive anytime between 8am and 8:30)
• Lead calm activities such as games, stretching, and sketchbook activities until the formal lessons (Feast on This and All Kinds of Art) begin at 8:30 am or 8:45
• Assisting teachers when/where needed during the formal classes (supply prep, mentoring individual students, etc)
• Leading wrap-up activities after the lessons until students are picked up by bus

 This is a part time intern position: 2.5 to 3 hours per week for 16 weeks (September 2016-January 2017) or 32 weeks (September 2016-May 2017) on 8:00am-10:30amWednesdays. Teen Open Studio – Guest Artist:  Ceramics

Fall Semester: Ages 13-18 at REACHOctober 6, 2016 – December 15, 2016Thursdays, 3:00-6:00pm REACH Studio Art Center is seeking a guest ceramicist to work with REACH’s Teen Open Studio (TOS) on the fall Community Art Project (CAPS).  REACH teens will create a mosaic mural honoring Malcolm X in partnership with Lansing Community College’s Centre for Engaged Inclusion and Sociology department.  LCC students will visit REACH teens four times throughout the term to teach them what they are learning about Malcolm X and to have discussions that inspire the design.  Teens wish to include ceramic tiles, broken mirrors, and found objects into the mosaic. The guest artist must be available on Thursdays from 3:00-6:00pm.  The artist must be able and willing to put in additional time to meet deadlines for the completion of the Malcom X Mosaic Mural for an unveiling December 15^th.  The stipend for this project is $1,000.  Please send a cover letter and examples of your work to Joy Baldwin at joy@reachstudioart.org by Monday, September 19.  Call (517) 999-3643 for more information.
