Volunteer Testimonials

Tara Gurney (volunteer: 2007)
I am a junior at Michigan State University, majoring in Psychology. My goal is to attend a graduate program, and receive my PhD in School Psychology. I like volunteering at Reach because in the past I have not had a lot of chances to work with young children hands on, and I feel this has given me the opportunity to do that and has allowed me to learn a lot.

Molly Herwaldt (volunteer: 2006 to current)
Major psychology or social work. What Molly likes about volunteering at Reach is experience of working with the different age groups.  She loves seeing the kids learn about art and the mission of the studio fits with her core values… By scheduling time to volunteer she is able to puts art into her life.   Molly appreciates what Reach is doing and being a part gives her the chance to give back to the community...

Bridgette Broughman (volunteer: 2005 - 2008)
I received by BFA in Studio Art from MSU in 2004. I am currently applying to graduate school to pursue my MFA in the fall.  In the future I hope to teach art, exhibit my work, and continue working for non-profit organizations that promote the arts.  My main interests are photography, painting, and drawing. I enjoy volunteering at REACH because the genuine excitement and curiosity the kids have about art is contagious and I am inspired after every experience.

Rachel Krommit (volunteer: 2007)
I am a Junior at Michigan State, majoring in Special Education with a concentration in Learning Disabilities.  I absolutely love coming to volunteer for Creative Connections at Reach because not only do I get to spend time with kids which I love, but I get to work in an environment that allows their creativity and artistic abilities to flourish which is an amazing thing to watch.  The concept of Reach is so unique and I feel lucky that I am able to volunteer in such a positive and wonderful environment.

Bonnie Curtin (volunteer: 2007 and current)
Bonnie Curtin:  I am a transplanted Michigander with my roots originating in the Upper Peninsula.  I have been a Dental Hygienist in Lansing for 37 years.  I decided to volunteer at Reach because my life has been filled with opportunity, friendship, & well being & I feel it is my turn to give of myself & share with others.
